The Plastic Debris Rivers
to Sea Conference
September 7-9, 2005
Crowne Plaza Hotel
Redondo Beach, California
Approximately sixty to eighty percent of marine debris in the world’s oceans emanates from land-based sources. The Algalita Marine Research Foundation (AMRF), California Coastal Commission, and the H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment are collaborating to produce a conference addressing the land-based sources of marine debris. The State Water Resources Control Board and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are the primary co-sponsors. The conference will present the research of AMRF and other organizations that contributes to the knowledge base about land-based discharges of anthropogenic (human-made) debris. Presentations and facilitated dialogues will focus on marine debris in terms of sources, impacts and solutions.
